Three phase ring/daisy chain

I've run out of slots on our workshop Consumer unit, however I've got two sockets next to each other right next to the unit.


I've taken one of the 32A supplies and moved the wiring to a new 63A socket on the wall, and I've ordered a 63A D type breaker.

So if I was to connect up another 32A socket I would need an in-line MCB to protect the lower current circuit.

I will need to keep socket 6 on its own supply as it has a d type breaker for the hydrovane.

I can't seem to find any of the interlocked types with a 32A mcb only RCD's. Can I swap the rcd block out for a 32A mcb?


I've found this but it's pricey and 16A not 32. Is this basically what I need?

If the new 63A socket on a 63A mcb is fed with the old 32A cable is the cable now underrated?
If you swap the RCD for an MCB in that outlet that will leave the socket unprotected (unless you have an RCD in the main dist board (it doesn't look like it in to picture)
Are any of those sockets RCD protected?

Difficult to follow what your asking, i would need a fag packet circuit. as above to change the rating you would also need to change the wiring .

Split the incoming three phase via some henley blocks and add a complete separate consumer unit to give you some more spare ways with correct protection to each. Give yourself a bit of future proofing rather than have to add on individual expensive protected outlets

I don't want an rcd, currently nothing is rcd protected.

Why do you need a D curve breaker on the Hydrovane it shouldnt need that? Have you checked the voltage when the things running to make sure you havent got a big voltage drop?

For what it’s worth my old HTC screwvane needed a D curve. 96cfm or something close.

This is 42cfm but old as the hills. It just chugs away. I've got a newer more efficient compressor but @Milkybars is using it currently.

Crikey, my 11kw variable screw comp is 62cfm at 10bar and runs happily off a 32a supply.
With commercial power rates you might be better off upgrading.

Like I say I've got a 90s screw compressor that we gave not a lot for, which should be much more efficient. We don't use tonnes of air except when plasma cutting so buying something mega new wouldn't make financial sense.

Could easily go out, spend £5k and take 5 years to buy itself back in savings.

I think @Milkybars is almost finished now, so I'll hook it up as soon as possible. Especially since we've just had a price hike from the energy company.

I've got a socket like that, not sure if it's the exact same one... but it just has a bit of din rail in the back of it for the fuse to sit on, I swapped mine no problem
