And then you get in the worry that I think Lotus tweaked the design, and reversed the usual mechanism of them self-tightening in use, so you have to fit them on opposite sides to what you might be used to.
BTW - anyone care to guess which German car manufacturer suffers the most misfires if the spark plugs are not torqued to 25Nm.? and which specifies 23Nm.?
Merc. spark plug torque is 23Nm. and they 'shall not' be refitted once removed. In both cases, it's apparently to ensure the electrode is positioned so as not to block the spark from the mist of fuel

Thats the territory of race engine builders, they use spark plug indexing washers.Merc. spark plug torque is 23Nm. and they 'shall not' be refitted once removed. The starting point of the thread on the plug & cylinder head are referenced, so yes, with the correct torque, it's repeatable. I'll have a look on WIS next time i'm logged in - it's part of the training material at MK, even the 'filter-spinners' are told it (for good reason!) and IIRC it's across all models from the current century. I've had several misfires on E63's that were resolved by replacing the spark plugs fitted by Indies (using genuine parts) that had been 'horsed up tight' with replacement plugs to the correct torque.Haven't heard of that one - what engine or model is that - link?
I think in general a spark plug with a crush ring should not be re -used maybe that's simply what the note means. I highly doubt the clocking of the spark plug is critical and repeatable.
a load of crap to meThat sounds incredibly hokey to me.

its impossible

Mercedes-Benz Spark Plug Procedures and Precautions
This essential component is still evolving in design, materials and service. Use only genuine Mercedes-Benz spark plugs to avoid engine failure.automotivetechinfo.com

RS-whatever are 'sensitive souls' to all kind of things, along with Merc. A35/45's they are incredibly intolerant to 'standard' petrol - there's a suitable warning in the owners manual about it (along with an advisory of don't drink the starter battery contents...) The real prima-donna's are the R8's (and their finance payers) which need the plugs changing within a specific temperature range otherwise they will happily misfire until something melts.I have heard that real high powered Audi RS's can suffer misfires from over torqued sparkplugs.
I have never had a problem - but I don't work on too many high powered flagship vehicles - sparkplugs are another thing that gotta go in dry.
Only thing I lube now - are glowplugs with antiseize
After dealing with seized ford taper seat plugs I've always put a dab of copperslip on plugs.I have heard that real high powered Audi RS's can suffer misfires from over torqued sparkplugs.
