Is it possible for me somehow to find a post that I read a few days ago? Since I already opened and read the post the thread starter has gone. I can't remember how it started, it was about a member having a surplus of electrical items including capacitors, I would like to ask him if he would sell me a couple. Thanks all.

Thank you very much Paul, wonder why I couldn't find it, I typed capacitors in the search box but no luck. Is there some other way of retrieving a post that has already been read?

Strange, I just searched for capacitors, and ticked the show posts button,
If you see a thread that you might want to come back to then you could bookmark it, press ctrl D together, or subscribe to it using the thread tools button on the top right, then you can find it again through your control panel under "subscribed threads" or under thread tools

Yep, tried search again, and no probs, 3rd on the first page. Last time I tried search at least 10 pages of lists appeared, carefully checked the first 5 pages then gave up. Thanks Paul

There are two searches: A google search at the top of the page and a forum search from the menu.

They return different results; at times one is more useful.

The forum search is a pain as it ignores words under 4 letters, so MIG, TIG, ARC and SIP will be ignored

Thanks Scott, what I've done on this occasion when I found the post was copied the url and pasted it in a folder. I should have known to do that in the first place, but when I first read the post, I wasn't thinking I would need it again.

In firefox you can use the address bar at the top, it may also work with IE.
Try opening a new tab and just typing mig welding capacitors in there and see if it comes up, it works for me, in fact, i only have to get to cap and it comes up.
Of course, it goes without saying that it only works with threads you've previously visited, it's no substitute for the forum search.

You can also go back through your browsers search history to see pages you've previously visited. Unless you erase it at the end of each session to stop the misses checking up on you

I've used the "this weeks posts" button when looking for something I've seen in the last few days.

I only use that button to read the forum.
