Many thanks for all the comments and feedback. I appreciate the imput and it has certainly given me lots to think about.... 
I've had a long think about the plasma issue and even though they have a good reputation, I'm not too keen on buying one from China (import duty, cost of sending back if faulty etc...).
The German ones sound quite good for the money....Chinese origin I don't doubt, but at least no import duty to worry about and not too bad if need to be sent back.
I'd love to be able to budget for a Sureweld or even a Hypertherm, but having just bought a PortaMig and needing to also buy a decent compressor, my budget is stretched already!
I'm beginning to think that a 40amp plasma will fit the bill for 90% of what I intend to use it for, so might continue to watch the 40A Rehmann (Felzen) ones a bit longer.
