Dont want to start a tin foil hat thread, just putting it here for those who may not have seen it. Its East Suffolk today, 22June21, and Reading later on in the month.

They are looking at rolling it out nationwide and you won't be able to opt out apparently. Makes a noise even if your device is on silent. Used in NZ at the moment for earthquakes and things.

I've had it happen couple of times now.

The phone makes an "alarm" (??) noise and then gives you a voice message about it being an emergency broadcast, and you have to accept it to clear it from the phone.

If you're in Suffolk it sounds like everyone's phone will be doing the same thing at the same time so I'd suppose the only folk getting odd looks will be those without a phone!!!

It's presumably been happening a while as I've had it at varying places in the country.

And in truth it frightened the bejeesus out of me! Being in a reasonably new wagon that has lots of unnecessary electronic junk in it I've got used to strange disembodied voices emanating from the dashboard but the siren was awesome . My mobile normally live on the cab floor as I have a Borg implant in my ear so I had no idea where said siren was coming from, and it was LOUD!
