It's more of a "make a gasket" though, rather than stick a gasket into position. I may have a go with the superglue.
Use Clear Bostick.

Don't use super glue as it's quite hard when it sets, it will also dissolve when wet so it'll probably leave tiny gaps.
Use some Yamabond or similar to stick the seal to the sump and leave it to set for a couple of days, "it's strong stuff "(TM The Blues Brothers)
Then slide it into place, Yambond will stay slightly flexible so should take up any inconsistency when it's all clamped up.

I did the job yesterday on the outside lift. All went as well as could be expected, but I had quite a bit of cleaning to do first. With the Allen headed bolts handy, I had the sump off in an hour or so (lots of pipes in the way) and the problem area exposed. I had bought a new gasket but it hadn't arrived, so with the Hylomar at the ready, I refitted the gasket a few times after thorough cleaning. A sliver of grease on the ears of the locating tabs and finally it was looking like it may do the trick, although not firmly attached into the groove. I put some sealant into the area and offered up the sump which I held loosely on the studs and nuts. I had to fight a bit with the gasket positioning because the surface of the block kept getting oily and so I couldn't keep it in place. Eventually it was all sorted and the Allen headed screws worked a treat for replacing the difficult ones. So far it is definitely not leaking like it was, but I will need to lift it again to check that it is properly sorted this time.
Then I looked at the Scorpio with a view to repairing it. First job was a coolant flush, what was in there was like sludge. A few gallons of water delivered by hose saw it better but not perfect, so I prepared a dissolved dishwasher tablet to add in. At this point the engine was running nicely so after it had cooled overnight, I added it in and decided to replace the rocker gasket which was allowing oil into the head and looking like it was on fire. That done, I ran the engine up but noticed a misfire, but whatever. Engine coming up to temperature nicely and at about 1500RPM there was an ear splitting bang and suddenly I couldn't see for a cloud of steam. It took ages to locate the problem, but it seems that the radiator header tank had exploded!
That was another fault on the growing list that I really couldn't be arsed with, so onto Ebay it went. Five minutes later, someone had bad an offer which the system automatically accepted, so not an issue. The buyer then asked for my contact details and said he would ring me later yesterday. I didn't get a call. The buyer seems to be in Kent, which is quite a trek from here, so not sure whether or not to relist it.
