thinning primer filler???

hi guys i put my barcoat on and all things are going well so now its time for some primer filler , the one im using is upol p88 it says i can put it on straight or thin it with thinners but i dont know do i need to or not , do you guys thin down ur primer ,if so what is the advantage , im using a 1.4 tip

Thinning's to make it sprayable, if it's really soupy it prob needs some with a tip that small. Try a little bit, if splattery then thin it a bit, keep testing until it's good, say adding 5% a time. That should tell you the 'feel' of it and the % thinners to make it OK for next time.

cool i just gave it a go with about 30% thinner 70% primer and it seemed hardly any colour was coming out then i tried 50/50 and it didnt really help, guess less that 30% thinner next time

Yeah, it's surprising how little thinners it can take sometimes with gloppy stuff, to make it nic for spraying.

1.4 is a bit small for primer, 1.8 or 2.0 is what i use.

I would get a cheap gun off Ebay for around £20

cool that be easier , one other question while i have ya , i was cleaning the panel i sprayed a few hours ago with thinners after i wet sanded it flat and the thinners stripped the primer off , is this because it didnt have time to cure? any info greatly appreciated

You don't use thinners to clean freshly painted panels , use panelwipe

Why did you use thinners after wet flatting?Just sponge it down.When dry use a tak rag before the topcoat.If you use anything use panel wipe it shouldnt soften the paint and flashes off almost as fast as thinners.

haha ok i read it somewhere on here that thinner can be used to clean pannels for paint obviously it wasnt for freshly painted ones , i clearly have alot to learn but im getting there thanks alot for the help

Thinners leaves a film behind and you don't want that !!! If someone told you to use thinners he ain't a painter thats for sure !!!
