Tom Tom gets my vote, my old cheepy (5-6 yrs old about £100 when bought) has given me sterling service and I'm too tight to get updated maps!
We have Garmins at work (two yr old ish but supposedly up to date according to our IT bod) and they are pants.
Use Google maps occasionally on my android but its not ideal and wouldn't be any good on a bike imho.

I use navfree on my iPad when out in my lorry, for bike mounts inc waterproof ones check out ram mount. They do mounts for pretty much everything.

i work on a lot of stage rallies as a marshal.
i need a good sized sat nav , screen size of about seven inches.
it also needs to be able to run memory map as well.
anyone got any ideas .
my preasant one is a medion PDA, maps are years out of date.
as of yet i havent found anything better.

Been thinking of replacing the Nuvi I use on the bike and car, but only because it's maps are out of date, it's cheaper to buy a new Nuvi with lifetime map updates included for less than 120quid.
The Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT will be a nice replacement having a 5" screen, and compatibility with mapsource, so you can design routes on the PC using the roads you wants to use, to download on to the Satnav. Can't see the benefit of buying a bike specific bike one costing 3x as much

I have Igo installed on my android phone which is ok, I dont like the google maps software and its need to send your location back to the mother ship etc, igo just runs standalone, but the software is a bit chunky. I originally got it on a gps then sideloaded it to my phone, not sure your allowed, but I'd bought the software with my original device anyway.
Phone is a ruggarized defy, waterproof, with some silicon inside to try and make it a bit more shockproof and it has anti scratch glass. So its a bit tougher than most, indeed I've owned it for longer than any of my other phones previously, and use it in the shed etc as a camera/listen to streaming music/mp3 jukebox etc.
We have a dedicated tomtom, I think its been under the seat of my van for the past two years unused as it has signal issues in bad weather compared to the gps on my phone, just clip the phone into a mount and go. The phone itself is getting past its sellby date now, but while it works and until theres a faster better rugged phone on the market running android it'll do me.
My wife has a google nexus, and the gps unit on that is even more sensative. She's since found several geocaches that have eluded her previous efforts with a old zte sanfransisco smartphone.

I've been running Tom Tom software on an ebuyer Navigo for about 5 years now. It works fine but you can't update it any more. I also have Miomaps and Garmin software which run on it but the Tom Tom is most reliable and easiest to use. I use my phone as well but the proper sat nav is used most.
