Thinking about a Clarke 90EN MIG Welder

Hello all, Just getting into MIG welding and I'm looking at the Clarke 90EN as a starter unit, can anyone advise if this is a decent unit to get started with or is a different one more suited?

Cost wise the 90EN is very reasonable (if Machine Mart is anything to go by)...any help would be appreciated.

Impossible to advise without knowing much more about what you are intending to weld.

The Clarke MIG welders are pretty decent for the money and you have the security of a well supported brand with UK dealers.

The limitation with that particular model is the power, even 3mm angle, which is a pretty standard material for lots of projects is getting near it's maximum capacity and it is good to have a bit of headroom on a welder so you're not always running it at maximum capacity.

Personally I would go for the 151EN which isn't that much more and will give you a lot more usable duty cycle on anything other than thin sheet.

I bought one of these around 6 months ago - I opted for this machine over some of the bigger ones because of the lower min amps . Its a good machine to use and very easy to change wire etc.
I do wish it came wheel mounted , its not light despite its size.... the only other disappointment for me was the fact that it doesnt weld the stated 4mm , Im using 0.6mm wire and agron /CO2 and I wasnt getting much penetration on 2mm sheet.

The 4mm was with 0.9mm gasless wire.

It should just do 3mm with 0.8mm regular gas wire. 0.6 would lower the amps by over 1/3.

I've got one for thin panel work and get on great with it.
Using proper co2/argon mix.

I'm liking the answers your all giving me, going to look at both the 90EN and as per ChrisJohnsScultpure's suggestion of the 151EN thats going to be next on the list...unless I get enough funds then I'll head up to the 151EN.

As far as metals goes, going to be playing with what ever the wire/gas permits at any given time
