That's reminded me of working for a newspaper in the late 1980s. I could read anything, rightway up or upsidedown, normal or reversed, at the same speed, it was all just words to my brain. I used to have to really think about one way street road marking and which way they faced.

Installed the new front prop today and whilst under there gave the rear a cursory wiggle like I do everytime I'm underneath, damn thing had some play in it. That wasn't there the day before yesterday , helpful when we're setting off on Wednesday morning to Scotland to help guide a trip. Luckily going past Gwyn Lewis so will pick up a couple of UJs and swap it before we start the offroad stuff. Even better if I can convince him to do it for me

Early 60's alarm/immobiliser, just drill a ½" hole in the dash then wire to the diagram

A pair of 250/300 Amp stud diodes, probably a bit on the big size for a hobby welder.

Clearing me old dad's place last year I came across this engine valve, I found it at an old train repair place in Bedford that we were stripping in the early 80s and kept it as souvenir as an 18 year old does
Though it was long gone when he chucked all the good stuff out!

Had one similar for years,comes in handy for putting side axle seals in recessed areas on some fwd transmissions

Made this in my first year as an apprentice in 1976, it was the last time I used a lathe, milling machine etc. I moved into electrical specialisation from the second year onwards.

Looking around I was amazed to see we didn't have a "things you have found today" thread I mean, come on, half of us cannot find our own way home most days. Anyhow back to the plot, looking through one of my filing cabinets I found something (something else) to depress me. One of the very few vehicles I really regret no longer having though somebody is enjoying it as it is taxed, all I have are memories and an old MOT ticket:

I found my truck failed its Mot due to freshly leaking front shocks , not the biggest thing but unusual for both to fail at same time , and very very recent due to oil being clean on both. another job to sort eh.

not found but lost , a silver matchbox holder , it was my dads grandads , as a tiny nipper appently I was fascinated with it , it was a present to him from his wife when they married , years later unbe known to me he gave it to my mother to pass on to me when I was a sensible age , I have absolutely treasured it all my life , but it seems now to have gone walk about , it was engraved with his initials . to say I miss it is an understatement , triffle monetary wise but hugely missed , think about it so often.

I blew both front shocks on my Mini after it got a bit airborne due to enthusiastic driving, luckily I was working at Longbridge at the time and a word in the right ear got me a couple a new shocks gratis.
