Thin gauge 4 core lighting cable...

I'm planning on overboarding the porch to improve the ceiling look (currently gloss painted plasterboard) and hide the cables.

For this one I'll rout out a channel and bury.

Is there a smaller 4 core available that would meet the regs for lighting?

Smallest 3 core and earth seems to be 1mm^2. I cannot find that cable in 0.75mm^2.

An option could be to use a relay/contactor and make the bit running to the switch low voltage.

Why? I mean why bury?, just use some flat oval conduit to the switch, it will look neater imo and saves all that chiselling and filling.

Better still, ( maybe ), as you have switches either end of this light circuit, set up a remote switch by porch door, no cable to bury.

Ok more expensive to achieve but not overly so and simple to do.

Why would you use four core (three core and earth)?

Is it fed to the light or to the switch? Either way you only need a 1mm T&E.

What about adding to the thickness of the wooden frame etc with the switch itself recessed into the deeper frame and the cable hidden under it? Just some battens and MDF...

Google 6243Y cable, it's the flat 3 core and earth cable normally used for bathroom fans.

Yup, that would work to, I did just that to hide a 10mm cable to 45amp DP switch many years ago, looked ok.

I don't see it being an issue once you have found all circuits going to the 3 gang as such, a bit more tidying up and some wiring

It's doable, change the 3 gang to a 2 gang and install the remote as a seperate switch above or next to the 2 gang.

If you go for the above, go for Quinetec remote switches, they are less hassle, simple to install.

If not, go for @drjim suggestion it will look just as tidy/good.

i wouldnt bother by the time you have wired in the reciever that needs putting in a box its not worth the hassle

Tbh mine haven't been that reliable.

I pity people who've gone for completely wire free light switching.

Doesn't look like it's available in 0.75mm so I'll work with what I've got. I've been using the router a lot recently so will cut a channel and hide the cable. It's no big deal and a lot easier than installing a wireless system, that as you say will need another box for the receiver.

The title is about 3-core. It's obviously for two-way switching (well it is to me).
