Thickness difference for car panel patches.

I think it will not be a good idea but would 1.1mm cold rolled be ok butt weld patching 0.95mm door skins?

I only have one steel supplier near me open on Saturdays which is the only time I can get there. They only have 0.8mm and 1.1mm cold rolled. With a lot more difficulty I can probably find a way to get 0.95mm which is what I think I should do or am I worrying too much? Obviously different thicknesses will make it a bit more difficult to weld (I am sure I can though) and I have quite a lot to do.

not sure if they exsist down there but we can buy repair panels for just about anything quite cheaply.....even the shaped ones.....
dont worry to much over the thickness unless u have to bend it....
here's one I did earlier....

I would have no problem using the slightly thicker steel. It would probably weld a bit easier too.

My daughter has a much-loved but rotten as hell LT35 from 1986. I was told that repair panels for that were no longer available - but the VW in your pics is similar vintage?
Do you happen to know if/where we might source replacement sills and lower body panels for the boxy LT please?

It is for a Leyland mini van which there are unfortunately no door skins or repair panels for the Australian front doors. It is also for the rear doors which there only appear to be non genuine repair panels which come as an inner and outer set. As I only need the outer panel I am thinking it will be better and cheaper to buy a sheet of steel.

Cor, a Mini Van. Rare as Rocking Horse Dung now. I think only the Mini Pickup is rarer!

Use what you can get, nothing to worry about over slight thickness difference
0.8mm being standard
Thinner will be easier to replicate the folds

As an aside.... a mate had one of the original 1959 mini shells to build a rally car out of (this is early 80's), while I had a mini from the 70's.
The '59 was built like a tank compared to my one.
