Thicker (50mm ish) aluminium 'sheet' supplier?

That was from Richard Austin Alloys in Glasgow. I did ask for a price for some other tooling plate a while later but my usual contact was on holiday and the price I got back was crazy. I said thanks but no thanks and asked when would my usual contact be back? I then asked again when she came back and the price was more reasonable and she said she was going to slap the young guy I had got the previous quote from

No I wanted cheap billet..lol

It might be no use but I am guessing some aluminium can be used instead of steel in some instances. My son wants some. Brackets made for his new Brembo brakes and it would be nice to use Ali instead of steel if I can find a clever forum member can let me know how to check stresses. Lol

You need to get some more practice in with Fusion, I think it has stress analysis in it. Not that I have ever messed with such stuff, I do it the old fashioned way, make it big and bulky so it will definitely not fail

Too strong is better than too weak most if the time

for an aside, slots in a router table are a PITA: they fill up with dust.
through holes for clamping featherboards.
for a slide, run along the front of the table.

My hope, maybe misplaced, was that I would use my sliding mitre thing to be able to finish / profile the end grain of small bits of hardwood.

What’s plate cutting? You mean with a big old travelling band saw?

It's a saw that cuts plate

No I don't mean a bandsaw. Plate saws are basically a platen circular saw or by design you could call them a gantry saw I guess, specifically designed to cut plate. Most metal suppliers cut aluminium plate this way.

I'll find some links later on when I'm not on my stupid little phone and some images of plate cut aluminium, I've got some I'm working on at the moment.

miter slots work, but you might find that you spend as much time clearing the slot as routing.
You also might *not* - it depends on what sort of wood, chip sizes, humidity.
using the front of the table as an infinitely wide mitre slot works as well - especially for end milling, rather than slotting - and doesnt have the problem.
