i would go with the insurers repairer, that then have liability if it is wrong.
I would explain what happened to the firm when the car is collected/delivered so they know what they are dealing with and also on the claim form state clearly what happened and your concerns for "hidden" or not immediately evident damage
end of the day kit breaks, and as long as the garage can show proper inspection. testing info & proper maintenance it is hard to apportion blame to anything more than "stuff" happens. ( My local garage had one go a while back & I know the owners well... their lift servicing is always bang on...) didnt drop anyhting though
