Sounds like he did a bit of Physics teaching at our school demonstrating volumes of gases by mixing copper and an acid to produce large quantities of a noxious brown gas that soon escaped the jar forcing him to run out of the door and us to huddle at the other end of the classroom!

not sure how freely the info is available, but if it is hard to get hold of the facts on this stuff, it might be a kindness to remove anything that adds up to a " how to rob someones pride and joy" receipe.
sorry, having been victim of bike theft quite a few times, I find it quite an emotive subject.
I don't think that's an issue dangle, the information is freely available elsewhere and I honestly think bike thieves would go out better equipped than some sort of thermite device and a means to light it. I'd imagine the sheer noise, smoke and light produced would draw way too much attention to a potential thief to be a viable method.
As you already know, if they want it that badly, they'll have it, all an owner can do is make it as difficult as possible for them.
