Thermal overload light

Guys and gals, I have been an occasional forum browser as I had the standard wire feed issues on my SIP welder. So I followed the advice of Bump et al and went for the Eurotorch conversion plus, for an encore, fitting a transformer for the wire feed. Oh, and the roller alignment plate. comment on
When I fired it all up, the thermal overlaod light came on and the wire feed did not function, so I took the welder to my brother in law who patiently explained that I had fouled up on wiring the motor feed transformer and that he had corrected this. I now have wire feed.
But, the thermal overload light is still on. Should I be worried about this? I haven't actually welded anything yet with the new set up just in case, so cannot comment on the actual function.

Oh, and I have to say that the site, and forum in general, is hugely informative and entertaining and (a) will improve my confidence when it comes to welding my VW Bulli and (b) very distracting on a quiet Monday morning at work.

again the light is on because it is wired wrongly and should take too much to sort out
if everything works it shouldnt be a problem but if your welder overheats in the future all you are going to is that it stopped working you wont know for sure it has overheated and more importantly is the thermal cut out switch still wired into the circuit if not you could destroy the welder without knowing if it got too hot.

do you have a wiring diagram if not what model do you have

Snooper, it is a SIP Migmate Turbo 150, about four years old. Alas, I have no wiring diagram, although even if I had I'm not sure what to look for - although I'll get out the multimeter and give it a go.

I started stripping various things on the welder to see if individual components are behaving. One slightly important part that is not functioning is the wire feed motor. It also seemed that the gearbox was seized, although dismantling and re-assembling sorted that. I'm not sure why an issue with the motor would mean the thermal overload is permanently on as there is no live feed to it unless the trigger is pressed (I assume). Anyway, it seems a good starting point to get this resolved but I am also looking at replacing the circuit board whilst I'm at it. Following the wiring diagrams seen elsewhere on this site suggests that this is where the problem lies. Any thoughts on changing the circuit board for what seems to be a better quality Clarke one?

I did the same transformer mod on my SIP 105 and I too have the overload light on permanently. The wiring is correct and it works slightly better than it did before. Must be the effect this mod has on the PCB...
