thermal arc 181i fabricator questions?

i have purchased one of these units approx 8 mths ago and have been restoring a classic mini what i liked about the machine was that you could adjust the wire speed and the volts on separate digital displays.
have a look at the you tube vids ( they are not my vids but us ones and there is a review too that clearly shows the wire speed display).
recently i think i have developed a problem i.e. the wire speed no longer shows on the digital display and i just have 3 zeros, this was not my first observation, but when welding i thought the wire speed was a bit fast.
after some playing about with the setting i still had no wire speed display.
on turning the wire speed knob to min the wire speed remained the same for about 2 feet of wire that came out of the gun and suddenly the speed dropped, when i increased the wire speed to max the wire came out at the same speed as the first 2 feet at min slow then after 2 feet of wire suddenly sped up still no display other than 3 zeros, am i going mad cos i swear i could adjust wire speed before and have all the setting or wire speed voltage etc written on my white board for various thickness steel i have been welding previously
this is a uk machine is there a difference between the usa model and the european model.

If it's only 8 months old it should still be under warranty, contact the supplier.

On mine it was fine, the reading shown up what was used then after i think 10 seconds of stopping it cleared. Never had any problems with it, its an excellent rig and i will be getting another one soon as i had to sell the one i had. i did notice when i was feeding in new wire from a reel the speed was slow but then picked up quicker, which is what its meant to do, apart from that all i can say is that it must be faulty, and as said above, it will still be under warranty.
