Thermal arc 180 ac/dc how obsolete?

Got the chance to buy a thermal arc 180 ac/dc eight years old although never ever been used and as new. Are service parts still in circulation or obsolete and it needs a foot control so would other ones do? Any info would help

I'd take a punt if it was me, but then I like old things. Thermal arc are I believe pretty good with bits, they're certainly well known and eight years isn't really old, is it?

It depends on who made it as to whether the parts are still available or not as they have a few machines made for them from various other manufacturers.

Is there a model name or number?

The seller was umm ing and r ing about letting it go. It was to be £600 for the old (new) one so I took the plunge instrad and bought a new TA 202 ac/dc. It had to be done!!

the 181 That is one of those MIG/TIG/Arc sets is it ? No way would i pay £600 for a secondhand thermal arc 181 thats almost the price they go for new.

My humble opinion is this: Get a MIG and get a TIG. But don't buy one that does both, thas just too many things to go wrong on one machine. Also if it breaks down you cant even try another way of welding, with your other machine. Its asking for trouble.

No it wasn't a 181 combination machine but a straight ac/dc Tig anyway congratulations on your 2000 anniversary as I'm just a new kid on the block!!
