OK this is what I'm after but dont know what you call the bl**dy things
I'm looking for a press tool that will curl the end over on a piece of tubing.
so that it act like a washer like this one..
Years ago we had one at work, asked for the 'bell mouth former' at the stores hatch... however I suspect that may just have been our workshops name for it.
What shape do you actually want to put in the end of the tube? What wall thickness are we talking about? The pic in the OP looks kinda like it could be a 45* flare or maybe a radiused flare/bellmouth. Is that what you're after or do want to flange the tube (like a flare but full 90*)? I'm only aware of proper big industrial flanging tools for example http://www.t-drill.fi/product.asp?sua=1&lang=3&s=16&nav=1002003 or Eckolds mobile flanging kit which wouldn't be suitable
There are plenty of flaring tools that will handle upto 3/4" tube including single flares in steel and stainless but they ain't gonna be cheap or handle anything beyond very thin wall steel. If that's not suitable (price/wall thickness or shape needed) then i suspect you'll probably best off making something/getting a tame machinist to make you something. I'm thinking an old lathe chuck/collet to clamp the tube along with a couple of simple dies kinda like sheet metal dimple dies but tweeked to work with tube... one die slips over the tube the other is goes in the end of the tube. Depending on the shape needed and wall thickness might need a couple of different male dies and/or might have to start the forming process with a hammer or as suggested just use a hammer and keep hitting it 'till it conforms to the female die
wall thickness is 1.5mm.
I could get my friend to knock one up but I wanted to see what is available.
not sure if a 12 ton press would do it though .
what ya reckon?
