Up until 1994 the MOD were sending WW2 vintage 0.303 rounds to India for recycling.
Some were recycled back to 0.303.
The bulk melted down and formed into 7.62.
Oddly only 20% was 7.62 Nato.
The rest was Russian 7.62.

Put it in a vice and give it a smack with a hammer and then dodge the bit of lead whizzing around the garage. Oh and wear ear protection it gets a bit loud.
We tried that in the shed with dads shot gun cartridges when we were kids, never did get one to go bang.
So we poured the powder out and put it into cigar tubes with a marble on top. Put a match to the touch hole and they went PHUT and made small dents in the skirting boards!
Yes that bit was in our bedroom..

The Deckel I learnt to mill on had a collet chuck that used inserts like that. Similar to a Clarkson collet chuck
