Up until 1994 the MOD were sending WW2 vintage 0.303 rounds to India for recycling.Back in the 1950/60s the local gravel pit was a dump for a lot of WWII 0.303 bullets. These were recovered, by swimmers, by the hundreds.
We used to make gunpowder/cordite trails around the school playground during play-time and set it alight towards the end of the playtime.
Some used to take bullets to the local wood, jam them in stumps and fire them off using an airgun with the barrel held against the primer.

Put it in a vice and give it a smack with a hammer and then dodge the bit of lead whizzing around the garage. Oh and wear ear protection it gets a bit loud.![]()
22LrI recently acquired an old Triumph brand steel cabinet and today, finally got round to ripping out the old home made shelving to put in my own home made shelving. Whilst doing so, I found tghis lying in the bottom of the cabinet:

Apologies for the lack of a mug for scale, but its just under 25mm long and about 5.5 mm in diameter.
