So I find myself in A&E for the 3rd time in 2 weekends...Mrs grandfather this time, decided to have a go at the swan dive in the bath and here we are...

But I'm looking around as I do and I'm wondering, anyone thought of using a drip stand as a torch lead holder?

Keep the weight of the lead, keep everything up off the floor and easy to manoeuvre around...

Or am I just losing the plot from being here so often?

My ex is a mid-wife . . . there's plenty of stuff gets liberated, including expensive monitoring gear. And you would not believe the cost of drip stands - she contacted the manufacturer direct and got a fairly reasonable price. but they were unable to supply direct, due to a deal done by the local health authority . . . many times that price if ordered through the system! So nothing gets replaced as there's no budget.

And they weren't allowed ot make a fuss, make public the amount of theft, even sometimes not allowed to call the Police - CCTV and having all the patients details means they know exactly who took what . . . but management didn't want to make it public for fear of upsetting people . . . the staff would have been happy to put photos and names on billboards around the area naming the thieving ***** who were now putting others lives at risk due to lack of equipment.

Good idea i think , i am into repurposed tools and kit myself, i have a draw full of dentist tooth picks made from the best steels, cant be replaced for removing hard to reach O rings etc

We are fortunate in as much as, the now local A&E was moved about 4 years ago and is now in a much more pleasant area than it was...I'm sure stuff still goes missing but I doubt it is as much now. The old A&E once had to explain how they let 2 people leave with a bed...

I'm spending a lot of time in hospital visiting a friend

I've been chatting to the nurses about how all the monitors are networked, big screens showing everyone at the nurses stations and if a room alarms it shows on every monitor so a nurse/doctor in one room can immediately see if they need to rush out

I asked because my friend is on one of those mask type ventilators and every time there was an issue a nurse appeared very quickly

Someone on here mentioned their tig hand set basically hangs from the wire/cable, from the ceiling above their work bench, so basically only the weight of the torch is held up by their hand. No trailing hose/cable to have to faff about with.
A drip stand would do that job if working away from the bench.

Spend quite a bit of time in there this year, really like the stools the nurses used, reminds me of a horses saddle. Something like this but more expensive

The district nurse bought one to our house when mrs Robo had to have an IV bag of fluids once a week, when treatment had finished she left the stand behind, I phoned the doctors a few times to get it collected, but they never did.
It now does a fine job of holding a temporary petrol tank above any engines I'm working on

Yes .... I have a couple of re-purposed NHS items in my workshop - simply because I have never been able to successfully return them. It seems the NHS is programmed to spend money - not in any way save it.

when my grandfather was near the end he was on oxygen, after he passed we tried to return the oxygen bottle, the walking frame, 2 walking sticks, a boot and a whole sealed box of unused oxy masks...the only thing they were interested in was the bottle, told us to throw the rest.

same when my grandmother passed almost a year ago, she was in a private care home, she had a wheelchair off the nhs and we tried to return that to no avail...shame we got rid of it as now my mother in law has just had to buy one

I'd suspect that by the time they've cleaned it, inspected it, made sure its safe, sterilised it, bought it back into stock and stored it, it's actually cheaper to just buy new for a lot of low value items.

Crazily wasteful, but that's the way of the modern world.
