The exploding solar lights. Yesterday two of neighbours solar lights exploded, then one of mine decided to join in. Seems strange that these solar lights can't take the sunshine. Mine exploded side ways while theirs exploded forwards spraying plastic stuff about. Pics of mine. Binned them all now.

Yep. Likely over-charged Lithium NMC chemistry cell being charged beyond 4.2V. Cheap charging-control circuitry is the most likely reason.

Looks more like the capacitor exploded. Could be due to the design not keeping the voltage in spec or just poor/wrong voltage rated caps. If the Cell had gone up there would likely be more damage.

No more scary, I would suggest, than mobile phones which burst into flames - some while in people’s pockets - a few years ago. That did not stop mobile phones being used!!

Samsung clearly solved that problem - which was scary, at the time, for owners/users of those phones.

So nothing new. Cheap chinese tat. Just a short memory, I might suggest?

The worrying thing is these exploded at head height on fencing shattered the fronts clean off them (neighbours), mine also head height but blew the side out as in pic. Neighbours going to take it further. Must be thousands out there.

The boot lock of my Corsa got so hot last Sunday that it melted and I couldn’t open the boot anymore.
I’ve had to modify it so that I can use it on the fob. The key will no longer work.

that twisty paper looking bit is the inside of a lithium cell, probably an 18650
