Hello all,
Quite impressed with the vastness and myriad plethora of topics here.
I'm a welder or at least I was until the wife got cancer and eventually died some 4 and a half years later leaving me with two lads aged 5 and 6. That was in 2005 and the lads are now 9 and almost 11. We have a new squidge too now aged 4 months - so yes - life goes on.
Spent around 20 years in the welding game covering most stuff from 100% pipework on the refineries and power stations to hand rails in chemical factories to tidal work in the orkneys to the foundation steelwork of canary wharf (those were big RSJ's, I could stand in between the flanges!).
Used to play around with motorcycles and have built a few frames for Harleys and whatnot. My Dad was a builder and so he let me and our kid mount a succesful coup on the family garage in which we installed our first welding machine (which was rubbish), I was around 11 then.
The partner is a silver smith and we live in a 400 year old listed building close to where the red arrows live and play. I'm in the process of setting up a fabbing and welding business although have been in business this last year plying my inherited building skills and our lass doing a bit of landscape gardening. I frequent that other welding forum but find it a bit too onerous at times - as though it's a competition - some of you will know me from there.
I'll be around learning new things and offering advice where I can.
I like the vibrant atmosphere.
Douglas.
