I had to change my gas cylinder over when I ran out of gas half way through a job...as per usual! The empty and full cylinders are stored in a bank outside in the yard, so still wearing my visor I wrestle out the empty and when out in the rain to swap for a full one.. came back in soaking wet.. Anyways, gassed the machine up and set back to my work, spraying a little anti spatter spray onto my work,

The apprentice lad comes over to nosey and says ' Are you supposed to spray antispatter spray on your visor?' I nearly laughed and said, 'No lad, this is rain, just been out to change the gas'..

That one gave us all a chuckle for the rest of the day!

I know, hehe, but I often shout now to the other lads, 'Do you lot need any anti spatter spray for your visors?'

it doesnt have to be the apprentice . everyones fair game for takin the proverbial out of at work myself included u have to be able to take what u give

I seen a final year apprentice trying to tig weld a stainless steel bracket to a machine without a visor, I asked him what he was at and he said he couldn't use them, he missed the following three days at work due to being in the eye hospital.

JFC... Hope he sees again. I have seen many imbecilies, including a former H&S mananger of mine. But none at that level.

Now that's silly How could you even look to see what you are welding? TIG has got to be the most intense of all the welding processes for UV and bright white light..

Its what makes a good team (sometimes) and helps pass the time, but mostly fun! Sometimes even the more serious events can turn out to be a laugh..within reason....

Example, for bare untreated metal to be tacked on and not fully welded, we use a weld - through primer paint that has the flammability of petrol and the apprentice paints it thinly along the tops of the beams before we tack on some 4mm angle...a stray spark from a nearby welding bay lights up the the 5 metre long stripe of paint on the beam and jumps across and lights up his brush.. of course, he drops it on the deck whilst we douse it with some sand! Again, laugh at the apprentice!
