That's what's annoying about Internet censorship...

It doesn't work and can never work 100% until they completely break how the internet operates.

You want a UK VPN. A raspberry pi at home is ideal.

I use TorGuard - provides proxies and VPN, with servers in dozens of countries. It also supports up to five devices, so my Raspberry Pi is permanently connected to the VPN and I connect my phone and laptop as and when I need it.

I don't use it so much to circumvent privacy filters, bit to access content that I am already paying for; BBC iPlayer and Netflix when I'm in another country, etc.

Tor opens a whole world of problems, as for Hola avoid it lake the plague! Here's a simple guide for building your own VPN server with a Raspberry Pi. I use mine when out of the country, or on an open network whilst in the UK.

I personally run mine on tcp 443 as that is always open from any public network.

Matter of opinion, of course. I've never had any problems with torguard (not Tor, specifically, which is a completely different application that I don't use - poor choice of name by torguard) and my wife and sprogg are able to use it on their phone / laptop and don't need to worry about carrying another device.

One big difference between the home VPN approach and an off-the-shelf solution like torguard is that you are not dependent on your own VPN at all. I can access US content by connecting to one of torguard's US servers, or do the same for Australian content, etc.

I'm guessing that any vpn running on my premises on the back end of my infinity connection is bandwidth limited by the speed of that connection?
