The price of tyres….

I've just bought 2 X 245/40R18 tyres for my car. I've always fitted Avon/Falken/Khumo/Nexen mid-range brands in the past but just did a Google search for the size this time and found Camskill doing an offer on Accelera make which are the same as came fitted when I bought the alloys years back.

I was pleasantly surprised....£112 for the two, plus £21 delivery. The old ones have been good and for my style of driving they're perfectly adequate.

£55 to £65 for Falken car tyres between January and last week, 18% increase.

I like falken. A good mid price range tyre and performs like a top tyre. I can't seem to get falken near me anymore.

ats was doing £30 off a pair of Michelins , paid around £150 a pair so was happy with that , less than the last pair

It hasn't. Steer tyres on all commercial vehicles and buses only.

These were Falken Azensis 255/45/18 103 xl and I liked them, had about 8 now, thats why I wanted the same.

This thread's made me check prices, I had a new set of tyres fitted last April for £492, today's price would be £604 for the same ones!

I've just checked my Blackcircles account, in December I had 4x Yokohama AE51 delivered at a cost of £384, if I reorder them today they would be £419 so they are up by about 10%

It can pay to keep any eye on what the Tyre Retailers are seasonally discounting and put them away for later.

Last week I bought 2 x Vredestein Snowtrac 5 (Winter Tyre) 195/65 R15 T (91), Winter Tyre from Blackcircles for £75.24 inc delivery.
They can sit in a nice dark cool place until the current Quatracs are finished, which will be about the end of this year.
(marked week 34 2019 and no they don't have any more).

Well that tyre if I’m left to my own devices would last 15-20 years, so yes, it would last the life of the truck (1 do about 1500 miles a year in it) but the government have different ideas and it’s limited to 10 years...

The prices on Tyreleader can vary a lot, I suspect it depends on stock levels. I ordered some Pirelli AT+ 255/55/19 for our Disco for £119 each a couple of years back, a week later they were £165.

20-21% is about the rise we are seeing - this will rise I think - by how much I don't know?

The shortage of carbon black and associated price increase of it is partly why the prices are shooting up for tyres
