The price of tyres….

I know we are always moaning on here about the price of this and that, but bloody hell, have you priced up tyres lately?

Need 4 tyres on my van, normally put 2 fronts on every year, but this time the rears need doing too so asked the cheapest place I know for the same, were just under a £100 each last year and are now £162!!
I looked and phoned around and even budget brands were about £100 now. Even online suppliers like Openeo who I have used before were the same price.
Rang them back and got them down to £152 each.

talked to mechanic next door a week back.... guy had been in for cheap tyres a while back, they were £26 each.... few weeks later he comes back... they were £66

£55 to £65 for Falken car tyres between January and last week, 18% increase.

I have a garage - we have reduced the stock of "branded tyres".

I struggle to sell anything with a "name" on them now. We just order them in - if anybody wants anything/anygood!

To be honest even at these inflated prices - the margin in so low - I don't care if I sell tyres.

Making tyres and transporting them - is very energy greedy!

Even I get shocked when I price sets of decent tyres up now.

I predict a few discount chains will hit the wall over this. It is now nearly impossible to sell tyres at a discount now. Then when these discounters evaporate - the rest of the trade will be charging more. I see the cycle of tyre pricing to only get worse.

Cost of running a car/van just is not going to get cheaper - it really is not!

There is a phrase for this - "transport poverty".

Michelin Pilot Sport 4s, worth every penny in my opinion.

I also really rate the Pilot Sport, they're all I use now on the cars. Pilot Road on the bikes too.

Getting hold of them this year has been a bit tough though.

Well that tyre if I’m left to my own devices would last 15-20 years, so yes, it would last the life of the truck (1 do about 1500 miles a year in it) but the government have different ideas and it’s limited to 10 years...
