Just done a sump gasket job & all my tools were covered in oil, So probably best they get cleaned before being thrown away

Even when I was on the spanners I would clean the tools I had used at the end of the day & put them back where they belong.

A tidy space is a good thing imo

It is but mines far from tidy

Always clean off my automotive tools after a job and put them back in the toolbox, but like after a surgeon does after an operation just to make sure you haven't left anything in there

Tig torches at dawn....... or do you have alternative weapon of choice

It will need to be less than 100 paces though as I only have a short lead on my wp20

I speak my mind and dont write cheque's that I can't cash!

The problem is when the tool boxes become full with "specialist tools" then you can't let them go, just got to get more tool boxes.
(Hence why the parents still have there double garage also)

I've slowed down a bit recently - a drawer slide jig last week.
And an Oxford oil cooled.

Then a Leigh dovetail jig today...

A stihl hedge cutter the week before last.
That's all since Christmas (I think).

<Edit> actually, no. I bought a hilti SDS drill at the car boot last week as well.

<Re-edit> oh. And a triangle air cooled welder as well

I *may* have a problem...

No I dont:

Just waiting for a break in the weather to put the roof on the new shed.
And I've got a nice big space to drop a 30ft container in.

So: no problem!

It’s only a problem when you buy the same tools because the ones you have are so buried in the box it’s more cost affective to buy a new one
Really need to get my shed built so I can sort my tools out .
I currently can’t enter any shop without buying something iv tried tool addicts anonymous but just came out with a list of more things I want

im glad at one point in asking i never got the tools i asked for so then bought my own

ive replaced cement mixer that we didnt get back

the rest ive added my own tools to it

im blaming some on this forum though

lathe
3 mig welders
2 arc welders one being my own the oil one much better
a hand shaper
steel welding table
a pro tool box

though mig welder was for me to weld up rocket stoves built more of them ever since

but this forums quest for tools is getting out of hand lately and im sticking to it

and now ive just bought a qctp for a myford and the myford still hasnt been run in yet still sorting other things out

i blame this forum i tell you

The only thing that don't live to an old age with me is 4 1/2" angle grinders, apart from a few snapped spanners by me being very heavy handed with them most of my tools are well over 10 years old and still in good nick even though they have had a hard life.

One of my favourites is an 18 year old bosch drill that the hammer action has been used so much that it's totally smooth and doesn't hammer anymore, I opened it up and the disc is worn flat.

I've got a old lathe that someone tried and failed to convert to motor driven, all I need is some flat belt pulleys to get it running which I could easily knock up on a lathe but I need it running to make the pulleys...

Turn a rough pulley using a drill mounted in the vice.
Use the rough pulley to power the lathe to turn a better pulley.
Use the better pulley to turn a near perfect pulley.
Etc...

I'm pretty much the same when it comes to tools, but aren't we all. I'm already looking to buy a chop saw for that "you never know" moment. Went into Helfrauds the other day for Adblue for the van, came out with tin snips.... forgot the Adblue.

Last week I bought a punch set, Ryobi 1/2" impact gun and a 3 foot pry bar. Oh the tools that are required to replace a clutch and 2 lower arms on the bosses car!

I have also bought tool for that whatif moment, or that will be handy. Had a Festo Kapex for 7 years in it's box till one day needed to cut some alli chanel for rear barn doors on a refrigerated truck. It even had 'laser' alignment and that was now 10years ago, didn't know that. Still have the festo dimino kit, has been about 8years and haven't used it yet. Had it out of the box to see what it looks like but haven't plugged it in yet. Will come in handy some time in the future, I just know it in my heart

You could make some rough spare time from scrap minutes. Then using the rough spare time, make some quality spare time?

Just an observation that I have noticed, but only now when I think back. Once you have a few toys, sorry TOOLS, what you endup getting is now very specific and subsequently more costly. The purchases are less frequent but cost more, or is it that we ignore the costs of 'hand tools', smaller items. The things that I remember now are in the several thousand dollar range, these things require investigation, apprasal, and are carefully looked into. Some batteries and cordless tools when needed are just arranged and no further thought is given to them. They are just a necessary evil.
