The mighty midget...

I'm considering adding a mighty midget to my arsenal of tools that don't get used that much. Mainly because my stick inverter that I run from my 5kw 2 stroke is a little underpowered, and I have a 'spare' sachs 272 engine I could use on it.

What is the difference between the 'round cased' mighty midget and the 'squarer cased' hubbel alternators?

Which one is superior?

The Mighty Midget Welder powered by the JLO 2 stroke engine is a 372cc engine not a 272...the later ones fitted with the Honda 13hp 4 stroke petrol engine apparently have the reputation for being underpowered...engine wise.....

I also have a JLO powered Mighty Midget Welder, that also hasn't been used in years, maybe I should do something with it....they're a good welders just a tad loud.....

2stroke engine driven welder brings back memories, I was on a site in Belgium expecting to find a nice oil cooled oxford or something and they presented me with an italian 2 stroke driven unit-WTF? you are having a laugh said I. But, it was a cracking little set.The only concern I had with it was it had short leads-not a problem as I was working on the deck-but I caught my Belgian welders mate trying to top the fuel up whilst the motor was still running and I was welding about 6 foot away.
Gosh-my Belgian friend-don't do that I said-well, I might have put it a bit differently but I forget the exact words I used.
I'd be interested to see how you get on, from memory I was running 10s and maybe 8s on 4x4x5/16 angle iron- vertical butts and horizontal lap joints.The verts had to be ground flush-guide rails in storage rack aisles for materials handling trucks.If thats of any use in showing what these little machines can do?.
