Costco do mail order [but I'm not sure if it applies to Members only] a dangerous discovery I made recently. I was always under the impression that they only did it for big items so did a test purchase on a jar each of their mixed nuts and fruit & nuts. Arrived very quickly and well packed.

This could cost me money........

I get those too, have a Costco in Milton Keynes.

Only ever pop in for a few things, £100 quid later.....................

I'm quite lucky that I have trade counter direct about 5 miles up the road
Have bought a lot of stuff from them on click and collect same day.
A lot of the time I go into a shop to buy something and it's a little bit more than the internet price, but as I can have it there and then I don't mind. But then they say they don't have it in stock and they can get it in a few days. Then you think , well i can get it tomorrow for cheaper so that's what I do.
I do buy white goods from a local trader though, prices near enough.the same as the big boys, but they'll fit the new one and take away the old in the price so it works out cheaper overall

I cant understand how travis perkins is more expensive than wickes when there the same company. Lol.

Dont use them often but useful for pricing jobs up.

Same with b and q and screwfix.

Anyone else use the internet for most of their purchases?

I find click & collect fantastic, I hate walking around shops trying to find things & people standing in your way.

Also on eBay 99% of the time I find what I want, Saves me even attempting to try any local shops wasting my time & fuel. Waiting a couple of days for a delivery is never a big issue generally

Are other people's thoughts similar?

For things you know exactly what you want its great but i get more and more frustrated determining between true uk suppliers/delivery. The ones that think 4 days to even ship an item do annoy me though.

Finally beware of click and collect. According to the guy in Argos the 14 day returns does not apply if you change your mind later UNLESS its packed as it left the shop including shrink wrap.
So he claims DSR does not apply despite being purchased or ordered on line as you collected the item.....

Well wanted a pair of print cartridges so into town WH Smith the obvious choice I thought £34.99!! The printer didn't cost that much !
So go back to the car , looked on amazon £21.40 inc delivery here tomorrow . Less than half the price . Ok I don't like the way amazon operate paying very little tax etc . But I'll overlook that on this ocassion

Was on Gumtree and spotted an iphone local at a good price so I contacted the seller and asked if it was still for sale. They replied yes and I could have it via DPD next day (Sunday) so I said I'd pick it up and pay cash if they sent an address. Not heard a peep since then. Internet fail.

I just sold something on eBay & the guy said can I collect it mid day in the week. My response was that I would be at work & not about. So he said send it in the post. He is literally 15 minutes from where I live. Checked the tracker today & still not delivered after the second attempt. Wish I had dropped it off myself now!

I have been forced onto the bay of thieves for workshop consumables because all the decent local tool and garage supply shops have closed down. Did have a man in a van on the loose around here but he was a bit hit and miss so gave up.

Not quite the same Ashley, we used to have Technisales in farnborough or Hydes in woking which had everything to do with machining, engineering or fabricating in stock. You could just pop in and grab a box of engineers chalk, any size drill you needed or turning tools, they have all gone pop . B&Q, Screwfix or Wickes aint quite the same

Used to have a guy come around weekly in a van, he got about 90% of my consumables as although occasionally the price was not quite as competitive, it was good to know what ever i asked for would be ready when expected, his son took over and decided a web site was better than a van, complete fail he totally missed the point that there unique point was that he would get whet ever you asked for.
A web site can only sell you what they already stock.

Mum lived in rushden for a few years and I did a month there before leaving for Jersey. Remember the shop. Only went in a few times.

But his problem was you can get most of what you want of the internet......many people in business know what they use 90% of the time and can keep it in stock. Its the stuff you only use/need ocassionally that is the issue. And this is the stuff you often need to see before you buy matching for size etc etc

I tend to use the shops for the touchy feely part of buying what I need and then order it online for a better price. Did this recently for a new PC headset I wanted recently.
