Will be a meter cube from 100x50 box (loads kicking around from a swimming pool I removed last year) and use rebar for grills.

I generate so much timber waste having a decent fire of an evening would be good.

Need to educate the kids on fire too.

I have been using AH Allen in Northampton for Steel, But had some bad service from them when I ordered some steel for me & @Arclikeharrypotter

So going to give FH Brundles a go when I next need some steel, But not short of supply atm

There's a couple of steel suppliers near me I keep meaning to visit but doubt they will stock rebar.

I think I have mentioned this before:

Went to my local Travis Perkins for 10 sheets of plasterboard, it sounded expensive so went on ebay and there was a guy from 200 miles away would deliver it next day and save me 20%.

Next day my local TP dropped off the sheets

Apparently this bloke is such a huge buyer he gets a major discount, sits in his bedroom taking orders and directs them to the nearest TP to the buyer....well done him for such a clever business.

TP are a strange company, unless you have a trade account they aren't even worth ringing for a price but for trade they will undercut just about anyone else.

Order it from fh @eLuSiVeMiTe, 10mm I think is something like 4 plus vat. Delivery isn't unreasonable. If not ring up local and quote the price you be seen elsewhere. See if they will match.

Anyone else use the internet for most of their purchases?

I find click & collect fantastic, I hate walking around shops trying to find things & people standing in your way.

Also on eBay 99% of the time I find what I want, Saves me even attempting to try any local shops wasting my time & fuel. Waiting a couple of days for a delivery is never a big issue generally

Are other people's thoughts similar?

I’m a bit old school, I like the interaction of meeting people and touching n feeling what I’m about to buy.

Things are cheaper sometimes on the net but not always the same experience

I don't have a trade account but when I was building my shed they undercut my local supplier by a good margin including delivery for concrete blocks, sand and cement. I buy lots of stuff online, it makes sense but I do compare local prices.

I do buy stuff of the web as often there is no alternative but prefer to do it the old way if i can. Everyone bemoans shops shutting but mostly everyone thinks of price only. Most want best quality but only want to pay chinese prices. Its why i packed in being self employed it was a race to the bottom!

I try and use shops as and when I can. Even ask if they will price match or at least come close. But often they aren't prepared to wiggle at all.

Sadly 9 out of 10 times you can get the same product online at half the price!

I do buy things that could go wrong from major retailers, As it makes returning an item so much easier

you don't get to see how large something is

We have chickens and I bought £20 worth of egg boxes

I got them delivered to work

Just me I suppose

I’m the same with most things, I still don’t have the confidence that what I’m ordering will be exactly what I want until it arrives. I like to have a mooch around shops as I often see things I didn’t know the vendor sold, or the name they use to describe it (big problem if you want to order it online) so yes online has its merits but I’m not about to stop walking into trade counters and shops anytime soon.

I just counted, in the last year or so I've had 75 Amazon orders, that makes a Prime membership very cheap from a per-order point of view.

With things like tools it would be nice to go to a shop and see how they feel in the hand before I buy but I don't think such a place exists. Plus, imagine a shop wall to wall with Knipex pliers, Wera screwdrivers and various spanners, money would burn a hole in my pocket so fast I'd actually catch fire.

managed to get a 4 cylinder Indian engine from MILAN at 3am......plus a load of stuff from Cairo...easy peasy........hahaha......

Costco do mail order [but I'm not sure if it applies to Members only] a dangerous discovery I made recently. I was always under the impression that they only did it for big items so did a test purchase on a jar each of their mixed nuts and fruit & nuts. Arrived very quickly and well packed.

This could cost me money........
