My journey, I basically refused, point blank to join the club.
In my early 40s I was 19+ stone. Silly long hours, living to work, zero exercise, over eating.
I was suffering from debilitating headaches. I lived on Neurofen. Sometimes I'd come home, take two and go to bed for a couple of hours before I could face dinner. Was necking them during the day too.
A guy at work who's wife's a practice nurse suggested I get my BP checked.
Rang my GP who made an appointment. When I got there the receptionist said "Oh, we were talking about you!". Nurse who did the checks said the same. I asked why and she said no one ever asks to get their BP checked. They go with symptoms.
Anyway, BP off the scale. She said I'm writing you a prescription, you'll be on these for life. I asked what the alternative was and her exact words were "Diet and excercise but you won't do that!"
I said yes I will, politely told her to stick her pills and did so. Went back and they were well impressed, got told to keep up the good work.
However.....I did that by a very restrictive diet and some light excercise, mainly a lot of walking. It was unsustainable for me. Thereafter I yo-yo'd for a number of years. I'd put on weight, get headaches and use it as a sign to drop the weight again.
I did intermittent fasting for a year and felt amazing, there wasn't one thing health wise that wasn't better. Went from 17 1/2 to 15 1/2 stone. (Goal is 15). Problem was I slowly fell off that wagon, comfort eating etc. Lost 4 parents in 3 years, SWMBO seriously menopausal, a big dose of what's the point!
Back to 17 1/2 stone now. Reaching the tipping point again and really need a kick up the **** to get healthy again. Current health concerns rather than making me think healthy have been making me eat and drink to forget!
Eat less, move more ya fat bastads!
