the final mig to tig

Hey, spent an hour reading the forum topic on mig to tig and tig to mig and my questions were not answered, Q: will I kill my componeys machine (a miller cp250sp with s52e wire feeder) by coverting the periferial hardwhere to tig. Iv made a tig tourch out of a mig gun, no water cooler. Iv swaped cables so, wire feeder negative torch positive. Right so far? Can the wire feeder break or burn out if I keep it conected on stright polarity? Will I blow the ballists in the power source? I'm just looking for reassurence that I won't break anytyhing. This is intended to fix tool and die steels. What could go wrong? Ha, thanks. And iv got sum time on my hands so I'll be waiting diligently. I'm a damn good welder, and a horible speller, sory... also, its technicly tag welding as my boss only buys 75-25 gas.... that's argon,co2 ,respectivly

For start off tig is constant current mig is constant voltage and you need pure argon for tig to protect tungsten. As for will you kill welder wouldn't think so but I don't think it will weld proper.

No, iv done this on an sp100, witch is the size of a lunch pale. The sp250 is desent size, I proced with caution. It (the sp100)worked, untill we blew a fuse in the wall breaker. That was a school project, this is work related. Cc and cv don't matter. It'll arc up and hold. I did not know 100% is the only way to go. So thanks. The sp100 was sometime ago, so I'm double checking. The welder and wire feeder, is all I'm conserned about. I was thinking the same, they'll be fine. The scruffy matinace guy thinks differantly, making me worie much about nothing. I'm waiting on tungsten. I'll post my resaults asap, hopefully this week. We have a airco stick machine, but its a 480? Wall plug and all we got is 240 lines.... if this don't work, that's going to be next in line for tig conversion. Thanks.

i will await results as i have a big miller CV power supply that can do 4-350amp so if it does weld proper i might try myself (i also have a HF tig box designed to work off a stick welder so would use that with it)

The Airco can probably be jumpered for 240.

You will get an arc off a MIG supply, but it will be real difficult to maintain a consistent current.
