There is actually a placed called New Invention on the English/Welsh border. Not sure exactly but it is believe that may be where the term came from

Taffy Bowen was a hero of mine. Admiral Doenitz credited him with ending the U boat menace. After the war he was responsible for the giant radio telescopes in Australia that helped NASA out with the moon landings.
Also the uranium enrichment equipment and designs that came to be used in the Manhattan project were first made in Clydach near Swansea - developed at the Mond nickel works. These gaseous diffusers were then used at the Rhydymwyn works. If the Yanks hadn't come into the war Britain would have ended up nuking Berlin! We gave all this research to the Yanks - read up on MAUD and Tube Alloys.
