Hi, looking at how highly people thought of Rage and other chop saws. I thought I would up date from my 28 yr old abrasive disk cutter. Basicly a 230 B&D angle grinder in a home made stand.
So, the motor is a spare jetwash unit of 4 hp. The belts and wheels were left over from engines, which accounts for the rather long one from the motor to the layshaft. This gets the 2.840rpm down to the 1,420 that the cutting disk needs. But keeping the big wheel off the cutter shaft allows a much deeper cut. The switch is under my thumb and has a neon to indicate it is live (ie plugged in)
It has been on the back burner for a few weeks, but a couple of orders for gates and grills made me finish the wiring and blade guard. Still need to guard the belts, but less fearsome than a naked toothed blade.
Used it for a couple of dozen cuts at 90 & 45 deg. Why didn't I do this years ago?? It gives spot on, clean cuts with less noise and none of the heaps of dust in the air and the sparks from abrasive disks. OK there are the hot chips, so now thinking of a magnetic collector.
See if I can get the pics up.
