Correct on the lookout for a Honda cb 250 rs with electric start for a later date when they can steer and stop the buggie with confidence.

Ive built a coupple of these
the last one had 1000cc v-twin aprilla engine and box in, 80mph odd across the fields is quite something (stopped looking at the satnav then, too scary)!!

Gave up on the Honda will use that one for number three son was scouring fleabay and managed to get a Suzuki GN250 electric start four stroke twin port similar to the DR as a donor, took what I needed and have placed the rest back on the bargain store. Also found a bucket seat and disc front end for stoppers have made the seat adjustable to suit the difference in the kids height must and remember to make them all the same size next time. Here is the progress so far.

How powerful is that engine?
Also, it's supposed to be positioned in a bike frame with air moving past it. If it's sitting behind the driver, you might find that it'll run a bit hot, or even too hot. An off road buggy might not be going very fast compared to engine revs.
Just something to keep in mind.

Interesting to see the four wheel mini bike you got there Sam. I have a mini moto myself and are thinking of doing a similar project over this winter. was yours one you fabricated yourself, or did it come like that as stock? If you did it yourself, any tips on how to go about it ?

It was like that, was given the frame and wheels from the local garage for the kids to push around.The guy that owned it ran it on straight petrol and seized the engine from brand new and has since moved on. The kids were having plenty fun on it down the hill so had a look on fleabay and managed to get a brand new engine and various parts a guy had lying around for the pricey sum of £10.35. Just love when a plan develops.

Finally found some time and energy to do more to the buggy through the week, it is Ruaidhri's birthday in a weeks time so have dedicated from tuesday to get this thing finished or at least off to the power coaters before they return from holiday at the outlaws in Ireland.
Welded up and machined a sprocket carrier and disc carrier for the rear axle also made two stub axles for disc hubs for the front i picked up on flebay and turned down a 5/8 x 3/8 sprocket I had lying around to suit 520 chain now I can get the motor mounted. I still have to broach a keyway in the carriers to locate onto the drive axle.

Got the motor mounted yesterday and made up a jackshaft for the final drive I have a week to get this finished before the kids come back from holiday will hopefully have the dry build done and have the chassis off to the powdercoaters ready for the final build when they return. Actually getting a little bit excited about it myself.

Spent the whold day making uprights for the front hubs also managed to get the calipers mounted and acetal bushes machined will probably have to scallop the beam that holds the uprights as only getting 30deg steering angle but wont be beaten. Must eat getting the shakes as have been in the workshop since 8.30 and only stopped for cups of tea. Second thought may be lack of alcohol.
