Just watched a program on BBC4 called "The 2000 Year Old Computer".
It should repeat so watch it if you can, or on BBC Iplayer.
It's totally amazing !!

It wouldn't be a problem, it's thought to have been based on MAC technology

I have a hard drive which does the date read error bllllhhh bit. I F12 boot from another drive[must get round to running spinrite on the drive] and if I forget, to F12, I get the error and I ctrl alt delete reboot...

That reminds me. I found this link to WatchDocumentary.Com which looks like a huge timewaster. Some really good stuff there, including Louis Theroux's Weird Weekends series - always good to make you feel better about yourself! Also has full concerts by Bill Hicks.

Perhaps I should add that this 2000 year old computer is of course a mechanical device. The amazing thing about it is it uses complex gearing well before gears were seen in even clocks. The research into what it was for and techniques used for investigating it are incredible. One guy even attempts to make a replica and is shown making a gear which he shrugs off like most of us would open a can !!
