... you're hanging a door: you've planed it to be a good fit in the frame, chiselled the hinge recesses out, then you measure and drill the hole for the latch... and realise you've measured from the top of the new door instead of the bottom, like the old one...

Speaking of.... My eldest been at a loose end this week cos all his mates have gone away. Been doing stuff around the house and took it into my head to make some shelf brackets. Some angle and box section cos they gonna be supporting some weight, i marked up one set and let him loose with the grinder, did a bang up job so i decided to let him loose on the other 4 sets..... Now i have 9 left hand ones and 1 right hand one.... Good job i can hide most of em
didn't make too much of a big deal about em cos it keeps him off his phone and other electronic gizmos. He wants to have a go at welding em today so i better get the heavy grinding wheel and the flap discs out .

when at just gone 5yrs old your dad gets fed up of you pestering him to have go at welding, so he gives in.
and you just about stick to bits of metal together.
and when over 10 yrs later whilst sorting through his box of treasures after he passed away you find it in there in a little wood box wrapped up with a note saying date on it and the words " first of many adventures into trouble together".
and boy did we get into trouble with mum loads of times, due to being called for tea and coming in 2hrs later, or getting spatter holes in my school uniform, and both of us trying to convince her it was moths.
and you just about stick to bits of metal together.

Having mates change a gearbox because you haven't enough strength due to illness and them asking you to double check their work. Lying on your back with hands in the air the spanner slips and you thump yourself in the face breaking your nose and giving yourself two black eyes

Still having that problem, not school uniform though! I'm forever being told by my wife, "your not going out in the garage are you, those trousers, jumper, shirt etc are good" methinks it'll be ok just for a couple of minutes, I'll take care. 2 hours later clothes in tatters or covered in oil. I think most of us have been there many times.

I get that loads! only at the weekend I burned through another hoodie with a 4.5inch woman not amused! Seem to be a lot of people getting spanner rash on here too I've been lucky for a good while so I'm probably due some any time now! And I had a mig moment at the weekend, all set up visor down pull trigger and yep you guessed it earth clamp on the floor next to the job, Doh! One of those weekends!!

That moment where you've just rebuilt the tdi engine I'm your discovery, marvelling at the fact it only cost 80 quid to do everything including skimming the head, then the spanner slips off and snaps your tooth at the nerve and costs you 150 quid to repair
