I've only been a member of thus group for a couple of weeks and have been given some excellent advice by a right good bunch of people.

I have learnt how to repair myself arc welder, buy the correct rods, set the power and most importantly start the welding process.

Tonight I've spent an evening in the workshop and gotta say the old welder is now working like a dream and starts an arc beautifully.

Now I have eliminated as many of the variables as possible it's down to me to get some practice in and learn how to weld. It's one thing laying down some lines on some plate and another thing altogether different to actually weld a job.

So thanks guys for all your help and advice

this why we are all here. We all started out asking questions to someone, be it a tutor, manager, instructor or a fellow forum member. Now that we know the answers we are all happy to pass them on

There are many good points to bing a member of this forum, Not just for welding related queries or instruction, But the total knowledge base encompasses virtually every other subject too. Members only to happy to help if they possibly can.Another plus is bad language definitely not allowed, We all (or most of us do ) swear in our working lives etc. But there is nothing on this forum you would not want your kids/grandkids to see. Proud to be a member!!

I quite agree, it's much more civilised and informative than some other forums.
