tescos bigger stores have the folding diy workbenches on offer at £3.75 , clearly cheapo chinnese stuff , but handy if you need something for occaisional use or a spare for the garage etc

Don't know what the dollar exchange is at mo but when you by that you could be feeding a family of 3 and 3/4 for a week

i was given a blackspur one but broke one of the wooden boards by leaning on it

not hanging just leaning

I got one like that from Screwfix about six months ago, cost around £10 or so, then. Stuff must be getting cheaper. It didn't like working with steel so I replaced both top boards with steel ones. Okay and easily portable for lightweight jobs, needs two or more of 'em if you're doing garden gates or anything heavy.

my brother has one of these. the two top boards dont even line up when its wound fully closed. as has been said they used to be a tenner i think his is branded as a draper.

My Grandad had one most of his life, bought donkeys years ago, a B&D one, he used to use it for every job. He's dead now, and it's still hanging on the garage wall, so i suppose you could say it outlasted him.

Bought a cheap one from netto i think it was , the top/clamping piece was made from MDF really cheap crap .

You can't beat the real deal. (Do they still make them?) I've had mine for 25yrs and it's had a hard life, but still works as it should. And unbelievably I was around at a mates house the other day and he has one of the original B&D Cast Alloy ones, and it looks like its just been taken out the box

how does the world think it is being more green by making stuff disposable

Well, it's not really disposable. I have an old B&D one and one like the cheap one here. The MDF top broke when I stood on it but I replaced it with meranti ply and it's fine. Both get used for supporting car panels when I'm painting, as extra work supports on for my Triton workcentre, and so on.

The cheap one gets more use because it doesn't have the fold-up legs of the B&D one so it's easier to setup, it's lighter so easier to move and folds smaller for haning on the wall. Horses for courses. TBH, I'd rather have a reasonable cheap one than the over complex B&D version but the top should be more robust as standard.

Ive got a few of these cheepies around the workshop. Use them as handy trestles when jobs are to big for the bench. Sling an old kitchen work top between a couple and heypresto a 4 meter bench.

Besides at less than 4 quid what do you expect

I bought a Black & Wrecker dual height one about 40 years ago and it's getting ready for some new tops. It cost me about £40 then so was an investment but it has been used and abused and is still going strong plus I found one same a couple of years ago on a flea market with some home made plywood tops and asked how much ? £5 so I now have two A friend had two of the cheap ones and they lasted a couple of months.
