Temperature for welding.

Is their a temperature for welding mild steel. The temp right now here in Oregon is in the 30's. It may be silly, but I figured I'd ask anyway, since I'm new to the welding world.

Far to hot for welding m8 spend some time in the pool !
Seriously though i think the only problem would be with the operator welding in those temperatures.

Uh, I think he means degrees Fahrenheit...

Should not make that much a diff. Have welded steel that was probably 40. Worked fine, might need a bit more heat.

I guess hardest part would be keeping the torch steady as you shiver in sub-freezing weater

The majority of us Brits use Farenheit for how hot it is, and Celcius for how cold it is

Not for welding itself, but the problem comes when you have finished and want to spray over the area with primer or similar. With the short days, it goes cold (and with that, increase in humidity in the air) around 3:30pm here (UK), so you need to have done your stuff and sprayed by about 3pm; and a primer which normally takes 5 mins to 'flash' the solvent off and be ready for the next coat, will probably take 30 mins in the cold.

Roll on the summer.....

Thanx for the replies. I didn't know if you'd have to change your settings for colder weather and yes humidity.
