Hi. New here so please be gentle.

I have previously used a Sealy 130 but recently aquired a Telwin 201 from a closed down garage. Does anyone have any information on this MIG as it has lots of knobs and switches whereas the old one just had feed rate and 1-2 Hi-LOW. It also says Automatic above the switches and seems to have capability for spot welding. Are these good welders? I paid £40 untested, have I been stupid?

Telwin manufacture for Sealey & are virtually the same machine. If your 40 quid machine works properly you have actually been very wise!

If anyone could please explain what each control does I am still trying to find out (I thnk the top one is power setting?)

The socket at the bottom is auxillary power for running a Spot Welder.
MAIN CONTROLS from the right hand side:-
Top = Voltage Settings
Middle = Wire feed speed control
Bottom = Spot weld timer (nothing to do with the bottom left socket)
The toggle switch in between the bottom & middle switches should be set to 'Up' for normal, continuous welding, and flick it down to activate the Spot-Weld Timer.

I've just noticed another toggle switch under the main voltage switch; thats set onto the mig torch symbol for normal welding tasks & onto the other symbol to activate the auxillary power socket for running a seperate hand-held spot welding machine from.

So what does the "Automatic" mean ? I thought it set its own wire speed to the power setting ( Yeah I know :-S )

Automatic = Telwin's Sales Bull! It may well have a 'trimmer' that adjusts wire speed to voltage (as SIP machines do) but it's by no means 'Automatic' & will always require manual fine tuning, depending on individual jobs.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. what setting would you recoment for work on 2-3 mm plate and 1mm car body panels ?

Or is it just trial and error ?

Pretty much trial & error I'm afraid! For 1mm body panels I would definately use minimum No.1 setting & 0.6mm wire & for the 2-3mm stuff try it on No.2-3. Anything above that put it on 0.8mm wire.

Greetings: I have recently purchased a telwin max/mig 180 turbo made in 2000 with no manuals. I have tried contacting the company to no avail. Do you know where these manuals could be acquired. Thanks
