i have just got a telwin telmig 100/1. i sold my old sip migmate 130 for this, but cant really seem to find out much about these telwins, will it be a better welder than the sip?
Moved to the correct section.
Telwin make machines for many different 'branders' including Sealey, ERP, Sureweld but not SIP as far as I know.
Quality-wise they're not top-end but they're fine for hobby use and they certainly don't suffer the same wire feed issues as SIP ones.
One issue with that particular model is it appears to have a low setting of 55 amps which will make it next to useless on anything thin so I hope you didn't buy it for car repairs?
I just welded my stainless exhaust with it using stainless wire. That was thin. Am a 3rd apprentice welder, so I know how to weld. Thanks for the reply, where could I find a manual for it
By thin I'm talking car bodywork, even 40 amps is a struggle on that.
Not really sure why you'd need a manual for it?
There's only four power settings and the sequence is dead easy to work out if you have a multimeter.
Other than that there's really nothing to know about it.
Put it on DC volts, place the positive probe on the contact tip, the negative in the return clamp, press the trigger and note the voltage.
Do the same on all the power settings and you'll then know which order they go in.
You should be looking for voltages somewhere in the range of 15 to 30 ish.
Don't forget to undo the wire feed and turn off the gas so you don't waste anything.
