Tell me about Waders please?

Tried a JIM suit back in the day (it's on City Island NY last I heard) but don't work, at any sort of real depth the pressure grips the seals and you just can't move the "joints". If you are massing about at anything less than 120 feet, drysuit (Viking - neoprene almost always leak) and mixed gas.

Put on your swim shorts and flip flops. Skin is generally waterproof. I did the above when I dropped some large logs into a small river/ stream, I had to go in with chainsaw to cut them up before I could lift them out.

Aigle for wellies

Yep Aigle for wellies - I got two pairs - one neoprene lined - other pair not!

Out lasted - all others - Hunters and even wifey French leather lined things.

I spend allot of time in wellies in the winter and honestly Aigle are the best for sure!

I have no knowledge of waders but a tip I picked up from Canoeists is to wear Teva type sandles over thin neopren boots for walking or standing in rivers.

My first Aigle wellies lasted 4 years, last pair just over a year…wondering if they've started trying* to increase margin!

For 90 quid a lift Id not bother with getting in, though a pair or waders or a dry suit for emergencies. Most in water gear lasts a finite time…

When I was learning to windsurf on Rhyl marine lake, there was quite a bit of stuff to tread on. We used to play a game called “shopping trolley or rib cage?”

For the money, get it hauled out and do all these jobs properly.

Something I saw somebody do when wearing chest waders in a muddy bottomed lake was to use a tractor inner tube for safety.
They had a rope tied round the tube, between their legs and round the other side of the tube.
So if they started to sink the tube held them up.
Always have an assistant nearby for help. You can easily get in trouble if you get stuck in mud or if the waders fill with water.

Back in the day Hood Bullseyes were the wader of choice, but the last pair i had perished after a few years. I see someone is actually making them again!
I had some cheap green thigh waders & they were good. Anything with thin soles is a no no if there are sharp things to tread on, Oyster shells in particular, they are like razors & will cut you real bad.

The waders I have are ex emergency services and have neoprene socks. You wear your boot of choice over the socks. They are easy to repair if they get a puncture, you don't have to replace the whole boot.

I'd prefer to wear a drysuit that waders, you'll not stay any drier but it won't flood, unless you don't do the zip up. I found front zipped suits less comfortable to work in, but obviously easier to put on if you're on your own. With a back zip I used to tie a longish piece of rope to the back of the van and work the zip across.
