Tell me about Waders please?

With the repairs needed to the boat, it would be easier to get in the shallow end of the mooring to do it, not to mention fiddling with the outboard. I see that they come in limited sizes, I have a chest of 42, waist 32 and shoe size 10-11.

Do I just buy something close, 44/11 perhaps?

How about quality / price? Am I going to regret buying cheap, for occasional use? Amazon has some for about £30 with no reviews...

I've bought the really cheap ones before from Ebay. The soles were very thin, making it painful walking over rocks and stones. You might get away with them if your mooring has a muddy bottom. I ended up spending about 90 quid for a decent pair for salmon fishing.

The cheap ones still keep you dry.

Are you sure you haven't got your chest and waist measurements muddled ?

Couldn't tell you anything about waders, as I have never needed any, but judging by SWMBOs experiences with well known makes of expensive rubber wellies, I would be inclines to go for something less expensive. Her boots do not last any more than a year before they split along flex lines, or where they fold over when stood for periods of time. Rubber waders will need to be hung up properly with no fold lines, and out of daylight if possible.

I find my PVC based ones last for years.

The ocean ones came recommended to me by river fly anglers and then a few other carp anglers that had them for years they're very good for the money.

Aigle for wellies

Used to use Grubs for sitting in high seats in the winter but they got to a point where they usually only lasted a year for me before splitting (bearing in mind I used them daily). 3 years ago switched to Aigle (Parcours 2 if I remember correctly) and apart from ripping off the strap on the side (which I rarely used) I'm still on the same pair.

i assume thats at a baot yard with their own crane/hoist?

last boat i lifted out was charged a day rate of 850...granted i had to wait for them to find it and then float it as it had been purposely sunk in the avon to avoid reposesion, but that wasnt anything to do with us really other than letting it sit above the water for a bit to drain it before sticking it on the stands

It comes out from the yard's slipway and hoisted onto supports.

ah that seems likea decent set up. those little crawlers are idea for that sort of work. the yard we work with havent got aa slipway and their own crane hasnt had a loler inspection since 2001 so cant be used for paying work...i quite enjoy doing boat work

I had two pairs of chams, the first pair lasted about 5 years the second set not even 2 years. I've had my aigles for 4-5 years and they look as good as new apart from the red lining has faded and worn a little.

I think OP will be fine with the cheap ones. Looks like silty slow water round there. Waders have a very finite lifespan regardless of price and you won't feel the benefit of the better quality ones if it's just an occasional paddle.

If it's slippery rocks underfoot glue some carpet to the soles.
Tie the top tight round your chest, if you fall over in deepish water you may not be able to get up - ever. They can fill up really fast.
