Telescopic vehicle ramp project

I have a problem with my (very low) car and need to get under to fix. About 12 months ago I had some parts laser cut from 4mm cold rolled steel and have now started to build these 'ramps'.

They are based on a youtube video ...a guy in the USA came up with the idea but never sold them over here. To use these, you jack up one side at a time and place under the wheel ...once both are under you then jack up under the ramp to get almost twice the height. There is an automatic locking mechanism (which I have yet to do) to lock them in place. I have made these to give me a total height of 360mm under the wheels....... I have also made them to attach to my home made (very low entry) ramps swo I onle need to jack up once. I'll post more pics when I'm using them. Excuse the rusty tubes ...it's only surface and I'll clean before I paint!!

I've sent for some 8mm steel bar for the locking pins so will finish these then and give them a coat of paint.....watch this space!

Not sure if allowed ...but I had 4 sets each of the 4 parts laser cut to make the price reasonable ...so three sets available if anyone interested ...pm me if so.

Looking forward to seeing your car on them and hearing how stable it is and how easy they are to use, or not.
My 530i sport E61 is difficult to get on ramps at home which involves jacking from the front cross member and sliding the ramps under the wheels, not fun or easy.

I know the video of which you speak always thought it was a good idea let us know how you get on.

CJ Autos sell hydraulic ramps (and optional lead on ramps) ....thats what I have and they work well. You drive on flat and then you raise them...they have mechanical locks too.

Design looks interesting...I wouldn't trust my welding to make a set myself though...I'd end up over engineering it with bracing and all sorts! If someone made and tested them I'd be interested I think because the CJ Autos ones are blooming heavy!

With my welding capabilities, I'd be welding transverse strengthening braces across them.

@zx9 Watch out for wheel widths, those rear tyres won't be slim, esp if you run staggered rims.

What stops you lifting too far and the top plate coming out all together....some kind of stop maybe?

Ramps are 260mm wide my 435D MSport fronts are 225 and rears are 255 .... should be OK

Mine are 245 / 40 all round.
