Anyone registered with TPS? I registered today after the umpteenth cold call and getting angry with call centre operatives who keep putting the phone down when you don't follow their script.
Been registered for a couple of years and noticed a drop in calls, any I do get now, just ask for their name and company then ask them if they've heard of TPS, normally get profuse apologies (as you can report them) and another one off the list
There is also ones for mobile numbers and junk mail.
Yes did it yrs ago. Just remember most of these calls originate from outside the UK even if they are answered by someone in the UK, so are not covered.
I had 'British Gas' ring me today. An Indian gentleman called 'Dave'........ he seemed to have difficulty with English.
Number came up on me phone as +0800...... I think the + signifies an international call?
I'd had enough of PPI and Debt services companies calling me recently so I registered and had an almost immediate reduction in calls until now, a few weeks later I don't get any ! Just done the same thing for junk mail with the mailing preference service, hope thats as effective.
The only thing to note is if you have any contact with a company they are allowed to ring you.
We get the odd company (we've never heard of) saying we filled a questionnaire out (which we didn't) as an excuse for cold calling us even though we are registered with TPS
On the whole though it does make a massive difference
Yes been on for years after double galzing in your area, you just won free membership to the local Gym etc etc, TPS does seem to work, the very odd call we now get I ask for details, tel No, name, and company,
if possible report them by filling out a simple on line questionarre, they do reply and seem to try and do their best, other than that call their bluff, saying you are TPS registered, and will report the company, generally an immediate termination of the call.
costs nowt, which is a change these days,
Go for it.

He used to ring me some time between 05:00 and 08:00 just about every morning, I think I'm now on his 'abusive' list and he doesn't ring me any more. It's a pity you have to get abusive to get the message across, but it works.
TPS - Tried it but limited success as most calls are from non UK centers.
So plan B -
tried being polite, but firmly saying no not interested = Total waste of time, they keep ringing back.
Plan C -
being rude tell them to $%^& off I'm not interested = Same as plan B, total waste of time, they keep ringing back.
Plan D - play dumb (comes quite easy to me) get them to repeat several times, interrupt & ask totally unrelated questions = Limited success but very time consuming
Plan Xrated [ This is the one that works] - get their name (& repeat it often) be very intense, ask about their under-wear, (at this point most will ring off and you go on their do not call list), a few are more persistent ....so tell them you are getting very exited at the sound of their voice & must get a tissue ...you may get a few "foreign words" & click they are gone for ever.
Just make sure it isn't the local vicar ,- he may want to come round
The main problem is when you give your details to companies you deal with they sell on your details to other companies. It's almost a no win situation.
I registered with TPS years ago and found that at first it virtually eliminated the nuisance calls.
Then I started to get firms of solicitors 'conducting surveys' on people with and without wills. I told them I was registered with TPS and they said it didn't apply to surveys, only sales calls. Obviously they were touting for business and the survey nonsense was a way of evading TPS.
Now I get nuisance calls from outside the UK, and the TPS can't touch them.
So pretty well it's back to where it was before I registered with TPS.
I tend to let the phone ring at least six times before answering it. The nuisance callers don't seem to let the phone ring longer than that. If I do answer the phone to a nuisance caller I usually mess them about pretending to misunderstand what they say and and so on.
I'd say it was worth registering with them but it isn't as effective as it was.
registered when i got a landline. npt had a call in 6months. get a few occasionaly on the mobile (fing Three mobile mostly) i ask them to please hold and put the phone on the bench and continue makeing lots of noise in the workshop. by the time i check back they have normaly got board and hung up
'Dave' rang again today. Wanting to know if i wanted to buy electric off him. He seemed to have even more problems with his English today; and a long delay after speaking till he spoke back. Must be a bit of a kink in the phone line somewhere at his end.
I told him we were doing an excellent deal on steel buildings at the moment, and would be happy to come to see him and give him a price. After he politly declined i thought maybe he was more into the architectural metalwork side, so suggested a nice balcony might be more to his tastes.
Click....
Random things, ask them if 20\30 CCJ matter
House things, point out that you are a tenant not owner.
Medical, have found that if you are idealogical opposed to private health care.
Holidays My wife is the best she screams shouts we have won, then proceeds to leap about shouting we won, we won, if they are still on the phone after this lunacy she proceeds to ask so many questions they loose hart, the secret is to not let them answer any of the questions, (it sees to improve her frame of mind for hours)
Tel preference fax preference mail preference are good as well.
Had very few nuisance calls after i registered with TPS. Seems to do the trick.
Gladiator have been a right pain of late. insured a van with them Sunday last week, they have rung every single day this week trying to sell 'add-ons'. Threatened to cancel the insurance if anyone else rang me trying to sell.
That was Friday, see what Monday brings.
i use it and i allso have no witheld numbers allowed i rarely answer the phone till it rings at least 8 times otherwise if its an autodialer someone else will answer it 1st and then they drop the other 10 who didnt answer
We are registered with TPS, but most cold calls seem to come from abroad, which they can't do anything about.
As soon as I hear a guy announce his very English name in a decidedly thick foreign accent down goes the phone.
I only get playful sometimes with the 'microsoft' calls, because I used to be a computer tech, and it's fun to have a laugh and introduce yourself as 'Hung Lo' the company Chinese IT technician....
