Hi all, would anyone be interested (or know someone else who would) in making me some custom size Tee-nuts? I'm after 120 No. If interested, PM me and I'll send you the dimensions.
Woz
No still never seen any but look a handy thing! You sure you cant buy them? Try FWB- the amount of ramdom bits and pieces they have on the shelf is amazing!
They're to fit between the underside of the two rails which are 15mm apart to allow something to be fixed on top with an M10 bolt without the operator having to use more than one tool .
What about, a coach bolt from the back, (pointing to the camera) and a nut on the front. the square section on the coach bolt will locate into the slot.....
and still only a spanner on the one side required.
If it was for myself, that's the way I'd do it but it's for someone else and they're using t-nuts now and want some more. As they're a non-standard size I said I'd see if I could get some made.
Because if they can be aluminium.... Here's an idea. (If you have a table saw)
Rip a strip of aluminium on a table saw with a negative rake blade in to the final width, and then lower the saw blade and make a sacrificial fence out of a bit of ply so that you can rebate the two sides of the strip to make the T. Then its just a case of chopping to length and drilling and taping a hole....
You would need to create some feather boards (piece of would with slits in the end of it) to keep the aluminium tight to the fence and table. Unfortunately I don't have a table saw any more. So I cant do it for you.
Are you sure they'd be non standard? ive seen about 5 different size slots so far, and my two lathes and milling machine each use a different size to the others!
Worth asking these guys if they can supply in the size you want. Theyre really helpfull and seem to have all sorts of things manufactured. The 14mm teeslot kit they sell seems close, probally they will sell you just the nuts to suit from it... http://www.rdgtools.co.uk/acatalog/CLAMPING_KITS.html
Might be that theyre near a normal dimension too, and you could just get someone with a mill to mount them in the vice in a big row and cut loads to size in one op. That was first job for my mill actually, make tee nuts to fit the bed
Morph if you run normal bolts or coach bolts in a mill on the table to clamp the workpiece or vice, and a BIG tool digs in, you have a risk of the fastner breaking out and damaging the table. The proper square doodah ones have more contact surface area with the underside of the tee to stop this...
