Taskmaster MIG 160/30TS

Hi Folks,

I have an old (maybe 20 years) Taskmaster MIG-160/30TS. Unfortunately the main transformer has just burned out... I have been looking for any reference to the model on the net, and cannot find anything. I am also unable to find a Taskmaster site to investigate the availablity of spares.

Does anyone know this model and how to find spares? If anyone knows where I can find a new transformer for the welder then I would be pleased to here from them with a price and availability.

Give DIY welding a PM they do repairs (currently got my mates inverter in) and could probably advise if parts are still available.

Looks good, but no cables earth, gas line regulator or torch.

Where to source same ?

The Gas line and the power cable as been cut off.

I will reconnect the power cable and power up.

The plant is required for car Sill welding and the fabrication of a stainless steel, exhaust. Well, thats the dream.

It was free, so if it powers up, we are quids in.

A piece of history. I have given it a dust down, and a scrub and it looks good.

I solid enough, and nothing loose or smells burnt, which is a good start.

All suggestions welcome.

Yep, power it up, see what happens.

More begs the question why have they castrated it ?

Stainless steel and mig, more complicated.

Well powered up and the Cooling fan works, if a little noisy. Not much else happened, and the rain stopped further investigation, output checking etc.

The internal wiring and installation looked original, and no burnt bits.

I have a Taskmaster 175 they are also badges as Snap on. They are made by Cebora as far as I know.

See below, all looks original.( and full of cement dust?) It is very very heavy bit of it will most of the M5 side cover screws missing.
The power contractor, appears not to be working., not unsurprisingly, since, the live feed power inlet L & N are on the same terminals T3,& T5 as the cooling fan switch, T3,& T5 so that is working but nothing across the contractor to supply power to anything else?

Ill remove the contractor and clean out and test.

I Would have thought the Live and Neutral would have been connected to the A1 & A2.
But!
Contractor top row T1 T3 T5 T21 A1.
Botton row T2 T4 T6 T22 A2.
After the clean out I'll test the contacts, and see before powering up.

BBC NFC63-110, I=20amp.

Gas flow solenoid Concordia.
108916522022,- 271 NW212, 220v 50/60Hz 4.5W 100/ED

Motor for the wire feed.

Well the machine, does say made in West Germany.

West Germany, from 1949 to 1990, a republic consisting of the western two-thirds of what is now Germany.
So the youngest it could be is 2022-1990= 32 years young.

Yes, I saw that post thanks, I did a search on the forum, and had a look around, under both, Cebora, and Snap-on and not much came up. There was a post on the taskmaster PCB repair, but have not managed to get power past the contractor yet.

My dad gave me this welder about 8 years ago, and I am trying to find a few parts for it. I need the ground lead, w/clamp. Sleeve for the feed wire, and a tip/shield for the gun end. This is a german made mig, and no one here in columbus knows anything about this machine. Maybe it would be...

So, a few steps forward.

The torch and earth lead connectors are industry standard things so easy to just get generic parts for those. They are not machine specific.

Thanks hotponyshoes, I was wading through euro torch converters threads.

Any recommendations, directions for earth cable, torch cable and small gas bottle, & regulator suppliers, for goods reasonably priced DIYer type gear on line or local supply chain, type companies.

Rain is still preventing further investigation of the power contactor.

For sill welding, steel 1.2mm plate, and stainless steel exhausts. If we ever get the far with a fully working welding set.

Come the summer. Indeed if we ever get that far.

If your anywhere near the BA11 area I can sort you out with an earth lead and gas regulator. I might have a mig torch as well but I'll have to have a look
