Two things.
One, as almost everyone else has said, a 3/8 die would be too big to cut a thread on that O/D. I have a suspicion those can't have been BSP dies.
In case you hadn't already sussed this Georgie (despite being told), the BSP sizes refer to the nominal bore of a pipe, not the O/D.
And secondly, using sand for blasting is bad for you. Enjoy the silicosis, chap.
